Cedit

Ceramics as cultural expression.

Supplied in the UK by PietraCasa.
One of Italy's most significant ceramic design brands, relaunched under Florim Group with collections developed through sustained collaboration with artists, architects and designers.

CEDIT was founded in the 1950s and collaborated with Sottsass, Mendini, Castiglioni, Enzo Mari and Marco Zanuso in its first generation. Relaunched in 2016 under Florim Group, the founding ambition remains: authored, expressive ceramics unlike anything else in the market.

The relaunched collection spans formats up to 120x240cm. Studio Formafantasma developed Cromatica and Frammenti. Zaven designed the Red Dot Award-winning Rilievi collection. Zanellato/Bortotto's Storie series won the Red Dot Award. Federico Pepe designed Araldica. BRH+ created Matrice. Giorgio Griffa signed Euridice. Matteo Nunziati realised Tesori.

CEDIT holds B Corp certification, reflecting a commitment to sustainable and ethical production. The collection is not for every project. These are materials for briefs where the surface is expected to participate actively in the design of the space.

Designed for every surface

Kitchen

CEDIT surfaces are specified for kitchen splashbacks and feature wall areas where an expressive material is part of the brief. Large slabs up to 120x240cm allow kitchen walls to be treated as a single design surface.

Furniture

CEDIT surfaces have been used to clad bespoke furniture pieces, shelving and architectural inserts where the surface is intended to be noticed. The modular logic of selected collections makes them particularly suited to furniture applications where surfaces wrap around forms.

Surfaces

CEDIT's large-format slabs are also specified for facade and architectural cladding applications, where the authored surface quality of each collection makes for a more expressive building envelope than a standard ceramic cladding system.

Bathroom

CEDIT wall collections bring visual and material depth to bathrooms that standard tile ranges cannot achieve. Relief textures, authored colour palettes and three-dimensional compositions create wall surfaces that read as design elements in their own right.

Did you know?

CEDIT's founding model, established in the 1950s and restored at the 2016 relaunch, is to produce ceramics through sustained creative collaboration with designers who bring a genuine point of view to the material. Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni contributed the 1968 Lapis ceramic vase, re-edited in the current collection. Ettore Sottsass, Enzo Mari, Alessandro Mendini and Marco Zanuso are part of the brand's historical foundation.

The current generation of collaborators is equally serious. Studio Formafantasma's Cromatica explores colour as a spatial material. Martino Gamper investigates how architectural surfaces can be assembled from salvaged elements. Giorgio Griffa treats the slab as a canvas. Zanellato/Bortotto's Storie series won the Red Dot Award. Zaven's Rilievi collection introduces three-dimensional dynamic compositions to vertical surfaces. Each collection carries a specific design intelligence that rewards close attention.

In practice, CEDIT works best when design intent is already established and the material is expected to carry the design intention of the space. These are not background surfaces. For projects working with Cassina, Hay or Established and Sons, where the material selection is as deliberate as the furniture, there is very little in the ceramic market that achieves the same quality of creative outcome.
