Laminam
Large format.
Minimal thickness.
Supplied in the UK by PietraCasa.
Ultra-thin, large-format ceramic slabs for architecture, interiors and furniture, produced in Italy.
Laminam was established in the early 2000s by Franco Stefani, following his invention of a production technology to create ultra-thin, large sized ceramic surfaces.
That singular focus has produced something genuinely distinct. Laminam slabs are available in two formats: 1000x3000mm at 3mm and 5mm thicknesses for wall, floor and facade applications, and 1620x3240mm at 5.6mm and 12mm for furniture, worktops and tables. The 12mm format is particularly relevant for kitchen and bathroom worktops, where the slab can be processed using the same techniques as natural stone, including integrated sinks, profiled edges and waterfall details. The IN-SIDE technology ensures that veining and pattern runs consistently through the full body of the material, resolving the edge problem that affected earlier large-format porcelain.
Laminam surfaces are heat-resistant, scratch-resistant, stain-resistant and non-porous, making them practical for the applications they are designed for. They can be adapted to slightly curved surfaces, which extends their use in facade and architectural cladding applications beyond what conventional ceramic allows. We continue to admire Laminam’s creativity and desire to push the boundaries, which has changed people’s perception of what is possible with porcelain.
Designed for every surface
Kitchen
Laminam 12mm slabs at 1620x3240cm are designed for kitchen worktops, islands and integrated furniture. The material is heat-resistant, compatible with direct contact with hot pans, resistant to wine, coffee, oil and standard kitchen chemicals, and can be cut to include integrated sinks using standard stone-processing equipment.
IN-SIDE technology means the veining and texture run through the full thickness, so profiled edges and waterfall details read consistently with the worktop face.
Furniture
3mm and 5.6mm Laminam slabs are designed for vertical furniture applications including cabinet fronts, door panels and room dividers. The low weight and minimal profile allow them to be applied to existing furniture surfaces as a cladding material.
The 12mm slab is suited to tables, shelving and horizontal furniture surfaces, creating a consistent material language between furniture and architectural surfaces within a space.
Surfaces
1000x3000mm slabs at 3mm and 5mm are used for external facade cladding and architectural envelopes. Laminam surfaces are UV-stable, resistant to thermal shock and frost, and can be applied to slightly curved surfaces, which extends their use in complex architectural geometries.
Hydrotect photocatalytic treatment, developed in partnership with TOTO, makes selected Laminam surfaces self-cleaning and pollution-reducing, relevant for urban facade applications.
Bathroom
Large-format Laminam slabs allow bathroom floors and walls to be resolved with minimal joints, keeping wet environments clean and visually uninterrupted. The 12mm format allows vanity tops and washbasins to be produced in the same material as the wall cladding.
Non-porous and resistant to all standard bathroom cleaning products and disinfectants, Laminam surfaces are practical for high-hygiene environments including spas and wellness facilities.

Did you know?
Laminam was built on a single technical idea: that ceramic could be produced at very large formats and very low thicknesses without losing structural integrity or surface quality. Franco Stefani patented the production process in the early 2000s, and the company has remained entirely focused on slab production since. That singular focus has produced a depth of knowledge and technical capability that a broader catalogue manufacturer rarely achieves. The twO series, launched at Salone del Mobile 2024, takes this further with 2mm ultra-thin slabs, currently the lightest and thinnest ceramic surfaces available commercially.
The most high-profile of Laminam's brand collaborations is the Automobili Lamborghini Surfaces partnership, which produced a premium collection of interior surfaces developed to reflect the aesthetic character of the Lamborghini brand. The collection includes finishes named Silentium, Tumultus and Tempestas. The collaboration is managed through Best Surface, the Spanish ceramic brand Laminam acquired as the exclusive licensee for the Lamborghini line. Laminam has also worked with kitchen brand Snaidero, whose Way Materia model uses Laminam slabs as the primary worktop material.
In practice, Laminam surfaces are relevant wherever large-format, low-thickness ceramic is the right technical solution: kitchen and bathroom worktops, wall cladding, furniture surfaces and architectural facades. PietraCasa can connect specifiers with experienced Laminam fabricators and advise on the right processing approach for each application.
