Contamination in Design: The Union of Marble and Leather by Kreoo & Gruppo Mastrotto
In premium interior design, "contamination" is a term of high praise. It describes the deliberate blending of two entirely different manufacturing disciplines to challenge standard design boundaries. When two distinct materials clash productively, it forces designers away from predictable forms and creates something completely unexpected.
A beautiful example of this material crossover is the landmark collaboration between Italian stone pioneer Kreoo and leather giant Gruppo Mastrotto.
Brought together under the artistic direction of acclaimed French architect and designer Christophe Pillet, this partnership unites two historic masters of Italian craftsmanship. By blending Kreoo’s advanced robotic stone subtraction with Gruppo Mastrotto’s high-fashion leather processing, the collection creates a stunning dialogue between structural weight and soft warmth.

The Enveloping Shell: The Holly Armchair
The definitive hero piece of the collection is the Holly armchair. Here, Christophe Pillet completely reinterprets the traditional armchair layout by replacing standard internal timber frames with an organic, structural stone skeleton.
The entire outer shell is meticulously hollowed out from a single, solid block of Navona Travertine. Kreoo uses high-precision, five-axis CNC milling to thin the stone into a smooth, curved protective shield, emphasizing the natural sediment pores and warm, sand-like layers of the Mediterranean stone.
To offset the stone's solid texture, the interior seat and backrest are lined with half-grain cowhide from Gruppo Mastrotto’s premium Linea range. Finished in a soft olive-green tone, the leather features a waxy feel and a sophisticated semi-matte look. The combination captures a beautiful, luminous garden aesthetic, demonstrating how stone can provide genuine physical comfort when paired with the right material.
An International Language: The Queen Table and Ever Bench
This precise material pairing extends across two other major furniture statements within the collection:
The Queen Table
The Queen table speaks a deeply luxurious, international design language. Its structural base consists of three dramatic partitions carved from highly figured Calacatta Viola marble, known for its bold, deep wine-colored veins. The table's top surface features a smoothly radiused stone edge that wraps neatly around a central inlay of rich, plum-colored nappa leather from Gruppo Mastrotto's ultra-premium Primalinea 99.9 collection. The leather provides a warm, silky touch right where dinner guests rest their hands.
The Ever Bench
Embracing a minimalist, geometric style, the Ever bench uses interlocking marble slabs cut to varying structural thicknesses. The stone seat features small, raised borders on the short sides to hold three handcrafted leather cushions in place. Each cushion is detailed with exposed topstitching, highlighting the authentic workshop processes used by both brands.

The Designer’s Formula: Balancing Hard and Soft Textures
For progressive architecture and design studios, this collaboration serves as an excellent masterclass in balancing interior materials. It breaks the old rule that marble must remain a hard, flat architectural cladding and proves it can function as a dynamic piece of luxury furniture.
By substituting traditional timber or metal frameworks with hollowed-out travertine and Calacatta blocks, Pillet gives the furniture a permanent, statuesque presence, while the leather elements introduce the comfort and ergonomics needed for everyday living.
Technical Precision in Fabrication: The PietraCasa Standard
Specifying a highly complex piece of mixed-media furniture that combines 80kg of carved Italian marble with tailored leather components leaves absolutely zero margin for error. If the room's floor levels are uneven by even two millimeters, a heavy freestanding stone armchair or a multi-legged table can rock, placing undue stress on the stone joins.
At PietraCasa, we act as the essential design and engineering bridge between Italy's material workshops and your final home project. Our in-house team handles the entire technical process. We utilize sub-millimeter digital laser scans to verify your project's sub-floor tolerances long before delivery day.
By utilizing specialized vacuum transport frames to safely move the carved stone pieces and ensuring perfect leveling upon installation, we guarantee that the uncompromised craftsmanship engineered by Kreoo and Gruppo Mastrotto integrates beautifully into your space.
